Default 95/96 993 or 996?

Im looking for a nice P car and it will be a daily driver. Trying to decide between a 993 or 996..and would appreciate you comments? I have heard that 95 ,96 and 97 are best for 993 and 2002 for 996?

Thanks for the help...

I would use the search feature for your issue...there are many many threads with the same subject.

As a daily driver...my vote is 996...no hesitation.

I own a 2001 996 and have adapted it for the track with about $20,000 additional investment ie Bilstein, Roll Bar, GT3 Seats, Sway Bars, Engine Flash, GT3 Wheels, Aerokit. The 99-01 has the 3.4 liter engine and the 02-04 has the 3.6 liter engine. I have heard problems with 99 and 00. My 2001 has been excellent. I bought from original owner with 40,000 miles two years ago, and I have 55,000 miles on the car now. It is street legal also. If I were looking now, I would buy 02-04. Larger engine displacement, glove box, and the front headlights were changed so that the front end differed from the Boxster!

I have also heard engine replacement for the water cooled 996 is significantly lower than the 993. But Porsche people have an affinity for the air cooled engines. Best of luck.

Well you're never going to have to REPLACE a 993 engine (absent running it out of oil). The top end required at 80-175K won't be cheap, but it's not like chucking the whole engine that goes "boom" one day in favor of some reman unit.

Talk to someone who has pulled apart an air cooled factory replacement engine. No way that inspires confidence in the process............

Ultimately, buy what appeals to you.
