In August of 2006 I bought a 2001 996 with 9,400 miles on it. Here I am less than a year later and I now have 21,000 miles on it. I drive it every day. All I have done is replace the mass air sensor (15k miles) and one of the seat belt receptacles. I've also changed the oil every 5,000 miles. Aside from that, everything is perfect. No noises, no loss in performance, no loose stuff, no paint issues. Nothing. So, am I surprised that Porsche receives high quality ratings? When I consider the fact that while my car has relatively low mileage but is closing in on being 7 years old, I'm not at all surprised.
