Anyone Entered Gift on the DMV Transfer of Ownership Form
For those of us who live in CA, every time a car is bought we have to pay tax on the purchase price. VERY UNFAIR. There has been some discussion on the price to enter on the DMV form, but I also noticed there is a check-box for "gift" which presumably avoids any tax? Anybody tried this?
I was recently given a wonderful 997S (pics later). Thanks to my benefactor, just so happens I bought some other (intangible) things off him at the same time.

Check out the Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator on the California DMV's site.
Click the "Vehicle was a gift" button and you pay no sales tax.
I wonder what you have to present to prove that it really was a gift or if the DMV even cares.
