![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I need my VDO Clock repaired and after review of a search I contacted a company called Palo ALto Speedometer. However, they have quoted me a price estimate of $175+ shipping. Seems awfully high to me, a few years back I was getting vette clocks repaired for way less than half that. Anyone else got another resource that is more down to earth?
Thanks

FWIW, Palo Alto is well regarded and used by many Porsche owners/shops.
The other option is trying to locate a new/replacement unit (PCA Mart, Sunset Imports (cost + 15%)), etc.

After posting this I did some more research via Google and came up with a place called West LA Auto Center, Speedometer Plus. They have quoted $89.95 + shipping. Anyone dealt with this outfit?

Jim,
Depending on the size of the clock, you may want to check purchasing instead. I replaced the console mounted small (2 or 2.5" if I remember correctly) unit in my 930. I found an exact VDO replacement in an aftermarket VW parts catalog. No Porsche part#,... no Porsche price! I think it was under $30.00. If you can't find the site, I can probably still dig up the info. Let me know.

That is definitely a good suggestion, especially if it is an "exact" replacement. Someone mentioned purchasing a used clock off eBay or the like and while that also is a posibility what I have seen available in used appear to be in less than ideal condition and may not prove to be an intelligent investment. I will be away from my computer for most of the day, but when I return this evening I will conduct a search for one of these replacement clocks.

Finally went on line and looked for a replacement, however all I found in VDO were the 2-1/16" (52mm) clocks. Of course the original in my '79 is approximately 3" diameter. I found none this size.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I think in the interest of keeping the car all original, rather than attempt to replace the clock with an aftermarket (even if VDO) I am just going to invest in the repair of this clock. I have contacted N. Hollywood Speedo since they seem to be highly recommended, their est. is middle of the road at $110.00 and I am shipping the clock off to them today for repair.
