S2000 vs. 987S vs. C6
First of all I'm not talking about the Z06 which is too much car for me.
Sold the S2000 because I got tired of the buzz, lack of grunt and toy-like (albeit functional) digitial instrument cluster. No complaints about the driving experince. Pushing the car is a blast, its just that in a daily driver mode it seems lacking. Also the S2000 electric power steering certainly lacks the p-car or BMW feel and seems a bit video-game like - although it is insanely precise and the car can cut up the road with the best of them.
Moving forward, just because of all of the magazine hype, and of course because its way cool looking I had to investigate and drive the C6. Actually on paper I was sold on one. But after driving it with the 987S back to back, I agree there is no substitute. I'm afraid I'm hooked once again (had an '84 911) and I'm picking up my 987 tomorrow. Gotta tell you my wife was disappointed. Not enough to argue mind you because its really my toy, but we loved the way the big Vette couple looked. But the C6 just can't give the chassis and steering feedback you get in the 987. I feel like I'm sitting in kind of a booming fighter jet thing in the Corvette. Nice but I prefer go-carts to be honest. No put downs here for the C6. Its a great ride, just a different flavor of candy.
And honestly I prefer the cool sewing machine noise over the V8 rumble after all. I'm preaching to the choir no doubt.
PM me if you want some feedback on my Vette shopping experience.

S2000 is sold, huh? I like those cars. Too bad I'm almost 6'5" and can't really fit for long. A buddy of mine has one though and I've run it through the gears a few times. Very fun car. Revs for days!
If you like go-kartish-type cars, don't count out the Lancer Evolution series cars. The Evo IX's just came out.
I couldn't be happier with my Evo, and it's my first Asian car. I almost love it as much as my Porsche. (Seriously.)
It doesn't quite have the "soul" of a Porsche, but it's very good at everything it does and it's a very capable track car as well. It's very easy to drive fast and require little-to-no effort to make fast turns that would keep a Porsche driver very busy.
The Evo keeps up with the C6 in 0-60 times as well, and runs 13 in the quarter-mile...stock. Tops out at 165. Stock exhaust system has a great tone to it and isn't loud at all, but sounds a little mean. No resonance at highway speed.
Not to mention that in addition to all that speed and excitement, you get AWD (but it still only weighs 3200 pounds), comfortable Recaro seats, plenty of leg room in the back, a decent-size trunk, and good reliability. Good crash test scores, too. Also, since there are only 4000 made per year, resale value is excellent.
But I mainly mention this because the four doors may trick your wife! LOL.
