AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - German luxury carmaker Porsche prevented a hostile takeover attempt at Volkswagen when it bought a stake in the world's fourth largest carmaker, Porsche's chief executive told Der Spiegel.

"Guaranteed -- we broke up a possible deal for some investment bankers," Wendelin Wiedeking said in an interview with the German weekly magazine to be published on Saturday.

I think the article says that Porsche prevented VW from being taken over by investment bankers, rather than prevented VW from taking over Porsche.

It was an old (as in like 5 or 7 years ago) VW commercial AD campaign. All they said was that word and it was to a song and they showed VW cars. It got irritating real fast, so it seemed perfect that if Porsche and VW got together, the 'new Porsche" would be that word in the Porsche font.

You have to trust me that it is very funny in my own dry humor kind of way. !!!

I own a VW by the way... Passat W8. I am interested at what will come from the buyout in the form of four-wheeled driving apparati... probably nothing though. Just a bit of financial 'help'. VAG needs it after the Veyron.
