Default Garage Heater Recommendations ??

I have a detached garage, and looking to add a simple heater to keep winter temperature a a constant temp of about 40 degrees for winter car storage. The garage is 12'x21'. I don't want to get too sophisticated, but want something that is maintenance free for weeks, works with 110 voltage, most importantly is safe, and times out if overheats. I will plug into a GFI circuit.

Any recommendations ? Or experience with this product ?http://www.eheat.com/

TIA.

Have you considered a propane space heater?
I have a 3 1/2 car garage (about 44x22....long story) which I keep at 40deg with a Modine ceiling mounted space heater. If I want to wash/wax the cars in the winter, I simply crank it up to 75 and in about an hour, it's T shirt weather inside.
My oil company installed the 100# bottle for free, as I buy propane and oil from them, and the Modine came from a plumbing/heating supply house (scratch and dent).
Very safe, very reliable, may even be lower cost than electricity to run over a winter.
Just my 2 cents.

Lewis,

Thanks for your input. I will need the garage heater only for two months, Jan - Feb and will be used only for one, maybe two winter seasons. Propane is an interesting/smart idea, but may be a bit over the top for just a short idle storage. That said, I just did a Google search on garage propane heaters, and will contact my gas company. However, seems 750W to 1000W electric heater will be more cost effective and more plug and go (no pun intented) for a year usage. Thanks again.

If your garage is well insulated, a thousand watts will probably do it. That is if you never let it get cold. Remember a hair dryer is 1000W.

I have a wall mounted ventless natural gas heater (a Charmglow) in my garage, which is the entire ground floor of my home. Garage is 24 x 36, uninsulated. I go to Florida in January for the winter and leave the heater on low all winter. I keep all the stuff that can't freeze on a high shelf and it works great. I put a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with the outdoor probe near the floor and the unit itself 6' up where my shelf is so I could monitor it. Works great. Coldest it ever was 6' up was 38 degrees, 27 at the floor. I live at the Jersey shore. When I want to work in there I can turn it up and in a short time it will warm the place up pretty comfortably.

Why not insulate it and save money?

I just use a salamander when i'm out there. If you want it heated all the time I would go with the gas space heater mentioned before.
