They all look the same.
So I went to the auto parts store to get some wiper blades. It rains here you know And in the parking lot was a nice black Carrera. I know it was a Carerra because it said that on the rear deck. The owner was talking about 993's and 996's and I realized I had no clue about which model is which. To keep my ignorance from being too obvious I didn't ask questions about either model.
Any place where I could get a quick primer, with photos, of the differences and what are current models?
I am supposed to be an "enthusiast" but my enthusiasm seems to have arrested with the 928. But, just because I don't care about the other models in the "911" line up, does not mean I shouldn't at least know some of the differences. Now I see the boxster is about to become available in a coupe model. That will make them all harder to tell apart. Particularly from the front. Am I the only one that has a hard time telling these models apart?

"The Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan may be more detail than you want, but has very good coverage through 993's (that series of books is quite good to learn about the various Porsche lines). If you get Excellence magazine, the monthly used car values section by Bruce Anderson has a pretty succinct summary on each model with illustrative pictures.
