Assemble 911/993/968/Audi RS2 mirrors... Mounting the foot to the 'house'...? how?

Assemble 911/993/968/Audi RS2 mirrors... Mounting the foot to the 'house'...? how?
Hello folks! My first post here at this nice place. I hope I post it in the correct forum now, I'm a bit lost at the moment. =)
I disassembled my mirrors for a paint job. I detached the foot of the mirrors from the mirror house. Now I can't get the together again. =( The big bolt in the foot is a real pain to get back into position. I wonder if you guys have any suggestions of a proper method...?
The bolt I removed to detach the foot from the house is visible in this picture:
