Lightbulb Porsche Is Developing A Gearbox That Switches Between Manual And Automatic

Porsche's new shift-by-wire system would give drivers the best of both worlds.

As always - this is an article based on the contents of a patent application publication, not an actual patent.

Similar to the double-clutch PDK.

How is this any different from a PDK? It's a PDK that is operated via a stick vs flappy paddles. There is no clutch pedal.

Bit of an edge case. For the driver that wants a manual, but not a manual?

Seems like something more geared towards EV's than any future gas cars imo.

What about an EV drivetrain wirh an AI-powered fake gearbox and clutch that makes noises like a true gearchange?
Id line up and wait ten years for that! (NOT)

EVs don't need gearboxes at all. This is absolutley for their ICE cars

Exactly my thought. There's already an "M" button on the console of my C2S.

Article is misleading. Filing a patent doesn't mean you are actually developing it.

Insteadof going back and forth, the manual mode in the article is about changing gears in a traditional 5 or 6 speed pattern.
