The speedo issue is not a Porsche issue - it is a European Union issue. Basically, what happened was that prior to Germany entering the EU, some pointy headed lawyer in Brussels wrote a law - link below - that if a car was ever found to have a speedometer that read speed BELOW the actual speed, the EU would fine the manufacturer rather harshly. Porsche, being in financial distress at the time Germany entered the EU, and presumably not in a position to ensure 100% compliance, made the decision to never be in a position to set their speedos high. Versus, say, MB or other EU carmakers, who spent the money to do the research to ensure that their speedos were ALWAYS accurate.
