I do say nine-sixtyfour, nine-eightysix, nine-fortyfour and nine-eleven, though.
I'm the same way, I just think nine nine three and nine nine six sounds better.

they didnt just jump fropm 924 to 944..

they had other designations in there as well. every project had a number. we just dont hear about most. many of the numbers are the right hand drive equivealent or the row equivealent.

ie.. 931 is 924 turbo.. 932 is the 924 turbo with right hand drive for britan, south africa, and i think japan..

Harry,

You are helping to make my point. It seems to me that in the past Porsche followed a pattern of numbering their new projects sequentially as they developed.

I don't know all the numbers between 924 and 944, but some of them are . . .

928
930 (basically the 911 turbo)
931 (924 turbo)
935 (I believe this is a racing variation of the 930)
936 (a dedicated racing car)
939 (slant nose?)
942 (special edition 928 for Ferdinand Porsche's birthday)

So, my point is that despite evolution of the 944 from the 924, the numbers are not sequential because of the various other projects that were developed between the 924 and 944.

Since development of the Boxster (986) began, we have seen introductions of the water-cooled 911 (996), the Cayenne, and the Carrera GT. Hence, it seems out of character that the new Boxster is being called the 987.
