Default New Key

Just wanted to drop my experience of getting a new Key made for my 2009 Cayman. I called the local dealership in the western suburbs of Milwaukee. I simply stated I needed a new Key cut and I was just calling around to see who could do it for the best price. He quickly ran off: key blank $200, head unit $380, cut the key $200, program the head $300. I responded, "so like $1100?" He said, "likely more with tax."

So I ended up buying the parts on Suncoast (blank and receiver) for $280. Had the key cut by a locksmith for $35 and had the head unit programmed by a different Milwaukee dealership for $160. All in $475 including tax.

So $1100+ vs $475.

Now I can get some new rear tires for the difference.

For comparison, I was happy to find that my new F-150 can program its own keys, provided the owner has two working keys. I did that and paid $100 for a refurb factory fob.
