Default Ppi

Is there a standardized PPI that a certified Porsche mechanic uses or is it pretty much up to the individual mechanic as to what is done? If it is a standard procedure, does anyone know what specifically is checked in a PPI?

Thanks

Typically a PPI includes just a physical inspection making sure every thing is in working order. However for a performance esp a turbo car its always advisable to get a Compression along with a leakdown test to see what shape the engine is in.
Make sure you ask the mechanic to make a check list of every thing he goes over and also don't forget to look at the service history, car fax report and a body shop eval making sure there's no paint work on the car.
Hope it helps.

When you drop the car off, ask which technician has the most experience with that type & year of car and demand that he/she complete the PPI. That way you can be sure the common trouble points of the car will be addressed.

Do research on the type of car you are thinking of buying and make a list of those specific items to be checked.

Also ask this or the model-specific boards for recommendations of independent shops in the area who do a lot of work on your type of car.

I'd sure post to the model appropriate forum and ask for recommendatoins for places to have a PPI in the area that the car lives. I was never at a loss for advice on PPIs when I looked for cars around the country (and everywhere is far from northern Maine). Rennlisters are always willing to help. The other area to look-and I know this wasn't your question-is on the PCA regional web sites. Many have lists of recommended repair facilities.

Good luck

For locations, check here: http://www.rennbay.com/local.html

With a mechanic specializing in Porsches, they generally know what they're talking about. Giving them a call and asking them what they consider a PPI entails is always a good step as well.

The is a guide for 911's in the Tech Section and a lot of the same items apply to the water cooled as well.
