718 Boxster and Cayman Wouldn't Exist Without China
By Brett Foote
We tend to think of Porsche's 718 family as distinctly American products, but we have another nation to thank for their existence.

Who thinks this? The UK market has the highest penetration of sports cars in Europe and some of the highest taxes based on emissions- stands to reason they would also feature heavily in the target market.

It makes sense that the UK would be a factor too. But the Chinese market has to be huge.

I see more of them in Vancouver than Shanghai. In a month I saw 1 cayman and 2 x 911. Loads of Cayenne and Macan though.
Considering there is a lottery to get plates in Beijing and Shanghai I don’t see many opting for a Cayman. Long wheelbase sedans are much more of a status symbol than a 718. Maybe they are selling them all down south but I certainly didn’t see many in Beijing and Shanghai.
