Default Porsche Nomenclature

I've always wondered what is behind Porsche's nomenclature.

For example, why are the top models named with GT? Doesn't GT stand for Grand Tourer which are are cars focused on driving long distances with comfort? If so, then I feel like naming Porsche's top-spec cars that were designed with only lap times in mind are named GT cars.

Why is a GT2 better than a GT3?

A Carrera T is another example. The T is supposed to be the enthusiast model, but shouldn't the S represent this? Even in the late 60s/early 70s, the T was the touring model and aimed at enthusiasts. But there was also a 911S back then too that was a better sepc.
I would figure that a Carrera Touring has creature comforts and a good GT car, while the Carrera S would be the opposite - what the T currently represents.

So many pointless questions, but I figured I'd ask anyway because I'm just curious.
