Have driven all three on track and off and I agree with your assessments with one caveat ...
The 996 although being the slowest is in my opinion the funnest to drive on the track, it is a lot more dynamic in terms of feedback and in terms of playfulness. The playfulness seems to diminish a smidge as you add speed and capability with every new generation. If offered any of these as a gift, I however would probably take the 997.2 RS, so there goes the caveat.
