Default OLED vs LED television

Looking at buying a new 65 inch tv. If I wait for black friday I think oled will still be about $1200 more than the led. Not on black friday the price diff is around $1500. Is it really worth the extra $1200 to $1500 ?
I would love to see each side by side playing the exact same thing, but I doubt best buy would have that set up.

Tks

Could you tell us what kind of content you typically watch on your TV? OLED models shine brightest when you feed them high-quality 4K HDR content. If you're only going to be watching CNN, Fox News, etc. on cable television, the step up to OLED is not going to be worth it.

Gaming, and probably 1080p movies and the occasional sports.

Black Friday sales are usually TVs that are made for the event. From my limited search LG only does the oled and they are still higher in cost. I’m in the same boat looking for a new tv

I just bought an LG 77" OLED and would never buy an LCD because of its issues with off-axis viewing, its difficulties with pure blacks and the dreaded soap opera effect. That said, LCDs are not prone to screen burn in and are better in bright rooms. If the majority of its use is gaming, get an LCD. If its movies, get an OLED.

I bought a Sony Bravia OLED 4K HDTV back in January. The picture is stunning. Blu Ray is awesome. And 4K streaming content is shocking. It will blow you away. LG makes the screen for Sony, but Sony makes all the internals. Besides picture quality, I was shopping for the thinest overall TV and one with the smallest bezel/frame and most edge to edge actual viewing surface.

Looks like LG Oleds are not discounted on black friday, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the LG 65 inch B series. The picture is amazing, and that's just with HD. Can only imagine how good 4k looks.

I got the LG because I figured they make the tech so may as well get it from them. Didn't really think to cross shop with the Sony's. Plus my other tv of the last 6 years is an LG and have been happy with it.
Did not think to look at the size of the Sony. I will say the LG is micro thin in the upper 70% but the bottom 25% or so is pretty thick as that is where the guts of the tv are. So far the tv looks amazing.

You will not regret your purchase. I've had a 65" LG OLED for over two years and the picture still blows me away every time I look at it. Can't wait to get the 77" set up.

Lg states they put safeguards in place against burn in on the Oleds. My tv goes to a screen saver after 2 minutes of non use. Plus they have other options in the settings to further safeguard against it. For one you can set it so that it shifts the screen left and right a few pixels on its own, though I have not turned these features on yet.

Good choice with the OLED. Pixel shifting is effective in preventing normal burn ins, but if you spend all day playing games or watching CNN or Fox News you still run the risk of damaging the screen. LG has a setting that softens logos... I have it on my new 77" C8 but I don't know if it's available on the B8.

I’ve been avoiding the LG oleds due to burn in and screen issues that have been plaguing them recently

Just installed the LG 55" and 75", and they are really good. I would certainly recommend them.

Screen burn is very well documented by manufacturers.

I've had plasmas and now OLEDs for many years and have never had a problem. Just takes some common sense and keeping kids away from the remote.
