Noticed over the last year or more there has been a consorted effort in Pano and Excellence and Web based sites to pump up the 996 Yes they are really great cars Have driven one. I think at some point when air cools are longer obtainable at reasonable cost and the folks want a P car the 996 is the next best thing. Ok lights are a concern and lack of flare fenders are a turn off, Stuggart did a great job in the evolution which is in a nut shell what happen. It is a good car IMS issue well advertised and easily fixed. Great value yes but oh my not an air cool. Enough said.
Like a few have noticed 996 turbo with the metzer engine is the diamond in the rough

I never thought the 996 was ugly. It looks particularly good in 4S and Turbo guise. Interior is a bit lacking, but I would still buy one in a heartbeat and be proud of it.
There are plenty of UGLY cars on the road, the 996 is not one of them.

Lots of good articles here explaining why these are great cars https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-articles.html
most of these people who claim these are bad cars have never driven one
drive a well sorted 996 of any spec on a twisty country road and you’ll be converted
I’ll take my customised C2 manual over most cars any day . It’s crisp light and viscerally engaging , something most 991s aren’t . And you can get a good one for less than the first years depreciation on a 991

The article says "Not only is this 3.6L six-cylinder engine a masterpiece, but it is mated to a good 'ole 6-speed manual transmission. How can it get any better?"
I can't believe someone called this engine a 'masterpiece'. Maybe for Porsche's profit margin but not for the owner of a car with low miles, outside warranty and a catastrophic failure.
What can be a better, is a manual transmission which doesn't have a common problem called '2nd gear drop out'.
