Default Ah, the worthless firmware upgrade capability of electronics - radar detector edition

Of course its not going to be correctable. What was I thinking that a firmware upgrade could adjust the way the device responds.

Escort 9500ci. Todays radar equipped new cars are throwing constant alerts. One would think that the processing code in the 9500ci could be updated to not throw alerts for those types of systems based on some characteristics. Nope... from Escort:

"You are correct, the K band falsing that you are receiving is from new car features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, collision avoidance and such. Unfortunately there is not an update for the 9500CI nor will there be one in the future. The reason is because the 9500CI runs on an analog processer. In order to have the IVT filter, the detector must run on a digital processing system. "

Not really surprised. The ability to upgrade firmware in electronics is almost never leveraged to add features (be it this, your car, an audio reciever, TV, etc) or correct bad behaviour.

Yeah, escort would love to sell me a new main unit.. but no, not gonna happen.

Upon query of what needs to be replaced, Escort of course responds with "Unfortunately the components and processors of the new units Are not compatible with the old units, and therefore the entire system must be replaced."

Needless to say, one cannot recommend Escort as a purveyor of well designed products with this sort of design philosophy which appears to clearly be targeted at just selling new product but not at producing a maintainable product that can be upgraded.
