Smile FS: 2002 996.2 911 Carrera 72K miles - $20,500 - MOTIVATED SELLER!

Hi Everyone,

Due to some accelerated work & life changes we'll be moving in a month and simply have too many vehicles to take with us. Unfortunately, that leaves our Black/Grey 2002 996.2 911 Carrera Coupe as the odd man out. We purposely sought a somewhat base model to keep things simple, and in that vein it's been a great vehicle. I've done some maintenance (as noted below) but we've had very few problems. We picked it up in Nov-2011 with roughly 58K miles on it and now are a few miles short of 72,000 miles. We're asking $20,500 OBO, clear title in hand. It's been my wife's errand car (we live in the country) and our weekend toy. Having both winter & summer tires (see below) has meant that it's gotten year-round use.

We're the third owners. A Dr. in MI (I believe, it was up North) initially ordered it and had it for several years, and then a fellow board member in Houston had it along with his 996 Turbo. We purchased it after a PPI in TX.

Here's the original build invoice details:
  • A1 Black
  • A1 Black Top
  • CX Graphite Grey Sport Seats
  • 411 18" Lt Alloy Carrera Wheel
  • 446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
  • 476 Porsche Stability Management
  • P77 Leather Sport Seats
  • Z34 Deviating Carpet Color
  • XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest
  • 498 Delete Model Designation
  • P14 Heated Front Seats Package

The car sports a custom Eclipse AVN726E AV/Navigation unit, upgraded speakers and an amp in the frunk, all professionally installed by the original owner. We don't use the audio much (too busy listening to the engine) but it does sound very nice and the Nav has been handy. We've also replaced or added the following things since we've had it:
  • Ignition Packs
  • Spark Plugs
  • Water Pump
  • 160F Thermometer
  • Serpentine Belt
  • Air & Cabin Filters
  • Coolant Change
  • New Coolant Cap
  • Color-keyed Front Bumper Plugs
  • Big Head magnet
  • (2) New Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 285/30ZR18 Rear Tires - less than 200 miles on them!

From a mechanical perspective, the car is in very good shape. The engine oil gets a change with Synthetic 5W-40 (it seems to prefer Valvoline SynPower) twice a year, regardless of mileage. We’ve also changed out the transmission fluid with Swepco 201. That fluid is a little thick when cold, but is extremely smooth at operating temps. There are no engine, coolant or trans or brake fluid leaks. As noted above, rear tires are nearly new and the front Pilot Sport PS2’s are 50%. Brake pads are 40-50% and clutch engagement feels the way it did when we got it (it was roughly 50% at that time). The only unresolved repair issue is a very small power steering leak on the front rack, where one line ties in. We actually discovered this in our 2011 PPI but it was so small that no one thought it was worth the expense to fix. And that’s been true – over the 6yrs we’ve had it we’ve got about 8-10 drops of fluid on the garage floor and I’ve used hardly any of the can of Pentosin to top off.

Cosmetically, the car is probably an 8-9. The black paint is original & very glossy. It has some minor rash on the nose but you have to look close to see it. There are a couple of minor scratches here and there, but again you have to be searching for them. The wheels have no/zero curb rash, not even any scuffs or nicks I ever noticed. It shows very well and was even used in some professional promo photographs. The gray interior has some scuffs and nicks around the center console, as to be expected in a 15yr old car. The leather is soft and has no tears but has a very small patch of wear on the driver’s side seat bolster. This could easily be dyed. Obviously, we’re open to any inspection or PPI. We’ve had the car inspected at a Porsche specialist shop in Union, MO, ET Turning, and they were impressed by its condition.

We live outside of St. Louis, MO but can meet in that area or in mid-MO. As noted above, we’re motivated to sell so I believe I’ve priced this aggressively given the condition and care. However, I’m open to offers as we are motivate to sell. I also have the winter tires (Michelin Pilot Alpins) on a set of 18” Turbo-twist knock-off wheels. They are about 50% tread. The wheels have a gouge in one wheel, but otherwise are in great shape and make for a worry-free winter driving package. If interested I can add pics of the wheels and tires. I’m asking $750 for that set or, if combined with the car, will do the entire package for $21,000.

Please feel free to post here or IM with questions. Thanks!
