It sure would be nice to know. Every part has a story, especially when it is from a car as spectacular as the 917.

mmmmmmm......addicts is probably more true!

Sorry I don't have a dramatic or romantic story about the 917 case. I happened to go to Vasek Polaks warehouse after he passed away and there were two cases over in a far corner. One was a virgin, never built case. The other had race history. I wanted and bought the "used" one and into the trunk it went. I got home and pulled into the garage and yelled at Rob to come out and get the groceries in the trunk.....he yelled back that he was watching the 3 Stooges. I yelled LOUDER. He came out and opened the trunk and saw the 917 and about sheet his pants. It happened to be Valentines Day! So I guess it was sorta romantic after all!

You're a great story teller. Must of been worth every penny to see his face when he open the trunk.

If you would consider spitting the models up, I would be interested in some 993s. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to put them in the apartment I would be forced to live in after my wife threw me out of the house if I took all of them...

Hi.

Love the models.

Idea: Donate them to a car museum to be kept as "one piece" ... PCNA, PCA....perhaps.

Perhaps "the" Porsche museum in Germany...

Really?

If that is the case I should buy the one you have and make copies. I make parts like this all the time and have several dozen Ferrari 512 engine cases in my scrap pile I plan on melting down one day.

Do you think there is a market for this stuff? Wouldn't sell them as originals but mounted to hang on your wall 917 engine case halves.

PS: that is an insane collection of models must have cost a small fortune to collect.

Yes, Really!!!!!
The person that has the virgin case has turned down STUPID BIG money for his.
Naturally an original is worth way more than a copy, but at a reasonable price, I think a 917 case coffee table or wall hanging would be a hot item.

And yes......the model collection was a long term addiction for Rob, he started collecting Porsche models when he was 7 years old. That was over 50 years ago!!
Buying a model now and then and then on a regular basis and then going into the model business....a 1000 of them took over the house.

And Rob said there ain't NO WAY he would donate anything to PCA! He's not even a member. Tore up his membership card after 20+ years!
