I am curious to see how you will feel after you make the trade.

Although the 996TT is a more capable car out of the box I was not impressed. Left me feeling/wanting more. (not speed as much exhilaration) I was offered a 997TT for my 964 T and I couldn't do it and the 997TT is a superior car to the 996.

I wish you the best and hope you have no regrets.

Tim,

Gorgeous car! I must say that I'm with Cobalt, I have driven the newer turbos. There is just something about the older cars that the new cars just can't deliver. Think it through! Good Luck!

Sorry to take away from your for sale ad as you have a beautiful example I would have a hard time parting with.

I am confused why you are trading, power wise the 996TT even with the X50 package is not much faster than even my old 964T in stock form. With slight mods I have found my car to be as fast as some 500hp 993TT's and take a stock 996TT without sweating. Although both cars are faster by far from 0-30. From a rolling start I have had no issues with the old school turbo besting 993TT's, 996TT's and modified C5 Z06 vettes. So unless you are planning on doing some mods there will always be a faster car.

Excellence did an article a while back that tested a 996TT against a 993TT and a 964Turbo S and to be honest the cars came up all very similar performance wise. The 996TT won because it was the newest but all the cars were able to perform equally well around the same track. The 996TT just did it more consistently because of newer suspension and electronic aids. Your 993TT can be upgraded and easily outperform a stock 996TT and not have that awful cable shifter or E-gas or RMS worries, a much heavier bigger car and depreciation you will not see in the 993.

All the power to you and hope it is the right car for you.

Unfortunately the 993 is depreciating more than you would think. Case in point....mine is still for sale. Nothing but tire kickers and people wanting to collect pictures so far.

Just wanted to say, that's one of the most beautiful automobiles I have ever seen! Too bad it's financially out of my league. Good luck. I envy the next owner!!!

True,

However you have a special car and these do not sell quickly. There is an A$$ for every seat and these cars will always have a place in the 911 story. The one disadvantage your car has is mileage. Otherwise by numbers alone the 993TT will always command more than a 996TT. If you have all your records and it is as well maintained as it appears I doubt your car will ever be worth less than it is right now.

I have been watching the market for turbos for quite some time and I have seen pricing equalize for the 94 turbo, 993tt and 996tt. In each case the price is staying high because of the low production numbers. With less than 350 94 turbos left they are commanding a premium and there are so many less 993's than 996's ever produced. I believe you will find in a few years time your 993TT will be worth more than a 996tt with half the mileage.

This has nothing to do with which car is better it is simple supply and demand and there will always be a demand for the quality of the older air cooled Porsche's.

Your car will sell although this is the worst time of the year to try. I have yet to loose money on any Porsche I have owned and one model I shy away from is the 996 because of the inherent problems and mass produced numbers.

I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decide they are all great cars and that is what is important.

Good luck on the sale. It's a nice car. I'm not sure why people are debating your decision in your FS thread (especially if you didn't ask for opinions in this thread). Kinda rude, IMO.

I hope you find what you're looking for!

You are 100% correct and I apologize. Although, I was not debating as much questioning his motivation. I don't think I undermined the sale of his car and if I had any more room for another I would be all over it. I think the 993TT's are at the bottom of their value curve and these cars will always be worth his asking price and most likely more.

I have sold some cars listed below because at the time I thought I was making the right move and they would just devalue over time. I have learned a lot since then and each one of those cars is worth much more today than what I sold them for. Hind sight is 20/20.

Tim, that is a sweet 993T and for the money you should be able to sell it. It is rough right now with the weather we are experiencing.

Either way, the 996T's are cool, and still a Porsche. I work in Broomfield, we'll have to get together sometime. My heavily breathed up 964T is a hoot to drive as well..
