Treffen Asheville - who is going?

gt-2 you were right about that. We met a gentleman in Chattanooga at Winterfest who was from the Asheville area I believe (had a beautiful dark green 911 cab with a Treffen door magnet) and he said that evening at the banquet that it will be an "hour" sell out. I dated it then in my iPhone calendar and boy he was right. I have spoke with some friends that are booked at the Biltmore Inn and will stop by the Grove Park just to look at cars, etc... don't guess there's a law against that.

We were on a Germany trip during the registration & luckily we had just checked in to a hotel & had WiFi setup just before 9pm,... so we got in. It'll be a 9hr drive for us,... but definitely driving the 964. Should be fun. Looking forward to it.

I'll be there even though the event sold out. Me and my buddy, in his 997.2 GT3RS, will be carving up the roads in the area. I lived in Asheville for a couple of years. First timers are in for a treat.
We're staying at the Tapoco Lodge (stone's throw from the tail of the dragon) on Thursday and Saturday. Grove Park Inn on Friday. There are rooms left at the GPI for those that want to come and stay there. Just an FYI.

Just stumbled on this thread. Here are my thoughts on the area.
Riding the TOD is best without a group. Early morning is best. Being a public highway i cannot be closed for groups. Expect minimum speeds (sightseeing speed) if with a group. Lots of roads in the area, less travelled. Remember the one rule on the Dragon; Do Not Cross the Yellow Line.

In Maggie Valley there is an excellent motorcycle museum. Wheels Through Time,

Biltmore is a fascinating tour of the Vanderbilt mansion. Easliy a half day inside. If you get thirsty while inside, rhe water fountain is in the Halloween room in the basement.
If your group is not using 2-ways to monitor speedtraps, WAZE is rhe next best thing.
Enjoy the tour. I'm staying away.
Post script. The State Troopers do have a sense of humor and in NC they do not give warnings.
Personally know a couple of these drivers caught up in the video.

After canceling the beach for a few weeks because of all the bad weather we drove over and stayed in Asheville yesterday and strolled around Saturday. Stopped by the Porsche dealership and met a nice gentleman who is involved as a lead for the Treffen drives. To say the event is in high demand is an understatement. When he shared some statistics they are doing a lot of planning to get these drives done so hats off to the volunteers. We registered very early and only signed up for "Dinner" event and the Dragon. We got the email that we were removed from the Dragon and we registered 5 minutes after 3pm but not sure how computers count? Knowing the Dragon will be a 7-9 hour trip we weren't heartbroken since we live in the area and have done it 50x but not with a Porsche group.
This will provide an excellent opportunity for smaller groups to plan some day trips and see some unbelievable scenery and some perfect roads for a Porsche and do it in 2-4 hours and not be committed to full days. We stopped by the Biltmore and took our morning walk/run around the property and know the Biltmore Estate will be of interest to many. The valet guy said they had a Ferrari group in a few years ago and they provided a roped off parking area for the group to attend the house and winery and not be parked all over the property but we need to call and plan.
With this said I would table we start chiming in and plan some days trips for the ones (only a 1/3 wil make the event trips) that have no plans but would like to take some cool drives with lunch. We have driven motorcycles all over these mountains and its very hard to pick a direction but we have 5 must drives that we could lead 1 or 2 or better yet other members who live in the Asheville area that would like to lead.
We have a few couples that couldn't get in but are staying at the hotel anyway and planning their own schedule and I think there will be a lot of that which is great. Looking forward to meeting new people and this will probably not be the last time an event like this will happen in this region.
Thoughts?

We would be open to a drive & lunch on Saturday.
Our preference would be a drive that is no more than 60-90 min one way, followed by lunch, and then head back to the hotel (another 60-90 min max).
PM sent and looking forward to meeting you and everyone!
By the way rpetty3 - love the glowing red rotors in your avatar! Great photo!

Keadog sent you a PM.
Actually have heard quite a few people are planning trips around the Treffen event. Some staying at the Grove Park but a few couples at the Inn at Biltmore and the Grand Bohemian (the best 2 in Asheville IMO but smaller). They are planning day trips and doing dinner in smaller groups. As one mentioned other than the Treffen dinner not sure what we are missing since few got in the excursions? Having never been to a Treffen I don't know?
We are driving up to VIR for the IMSA races next Friday and are having lunch in Asheville and doing a dry run one way on what could be a day trip backroad route during Treffen that one of the organizers told us about which is a backroad up to Little Switzerland.

What is the BRP?
Is it a Federal Offense because it crosses a state line? If so, is it the moment you cross the line that it becomes a Federal Offense? What if you have a out of NC State Drivers License.
Thanks in advance,... cuz I had no idea what this all meant,... and my wife & I will be joining the Treffen down there in Sept.

The BRP is the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is Federal property so enforcement is done by the National Park Service rangers. In most places the speed limit is 45 mph. Passing zones are few and far between.
The BRP is a beautiful drive. It is tailored for the sight seeing tourist, not for car clubs and bike clubs to caravan. There are many roads in the area to enjoy w/o the speed restrictions. Many of these side roads you will be lucky to maintain the 55 limit.

Well its getting close.
We are passholders at the Biltmore and called to get a block reservation for Friday. We would need at least 10 people total to get the group discount down to like $42 each ticket. That is full access to the house, grounds, winery and restaurants. If you have never been its a must while your in the area. Once we get a count we were asked to call back and speak with a certain person about private parking in front of the home for convenience and for a group picture. I figured before I did that I would see what the interest was first. We discussed a 10am time and would probably be out by 2ish. Not sure how to pass this around to the Treffen group other than the ones following Rennlist?
FYI we are in the Knoxville area have experienced a very cool start to fall if it holds out this will be an even better event...weather wise!
