Default Front Temporary License Plate at Leipzig

I did the European Delivery at Leipzig this May 30th. I had a plan of doing a lot of professional quality photo shoot work so it was important for me to have the license plate attached properly and look nice.

At Leipzig, unfortunately, if you just leave them do it for you they will put it using thick black tape and it will look extremely ugly.

Bring a roll of 3M automotive grade double sided tape and ask them to put the front license plate using the tape. After a few back and forth they agreed on doing it and it looks a lot better that way. Not only the tape held up the tape was so strong that I had a hard time taking the front license plate off when dropping off. I also had clear bra work done on the bumper and the tape didnt damage the clear bra work during the removal. Thought I should share this information

This is how it will look if delivered from Leipzig

It does look much better with the 3M tape. That's how BMW attaches the front plates for their ED program. Hopefully Leipzig will catch on

Yes, I also got that info from a coworker that did the BMW ED so I tried to make it happen and insisted on doing this when I was at Leipzig. They were reluctant at first but when I mentioned that BMW does it this way and that the tape is automotive grade they decided to give it a try.

Mine was a sticker, I've never seen them use black tape like that.

Great tip, I too took delivery in Leipzig (still in Germany now) and was a little surprised about the black duct tape job.

I wonder where I can get double sided tape in Germany?

I am picking up in Leipzig Wednesday. In Berlin now. Thanks for the heads up. I will find a Home Depot around here and get some tape.

Looking at your plate number looks like there once was a tape option. Looks awesome

Nice color!
I would guess that there is a auto parts shop in Germany or Home Depot like home improvement shops. All you need is automotive grade or outdoor grade 3M double sided tape, usually has red vinyl protection cover that you peel off. Good luck finding the tape!

I just did my Leipzig pickup on July 6th. Mine was a sticker like the RS above. The reason some are stickers and some are taped on is based on how many people are taking delivery that day. Stickers cost more than the tape so they economize in bulk when a lot of people are taking delivery the same day.

Mine and the RS were both group deliveries (albeit separated by a year).

You don't need to be part of a group delivery but there needs to be other people taking delivery that day to make it worth if for them to order and pay for the decals.

Mine came with the tow hook mount, I did fill out the form that I did NOT want my plate installed and would accept any fines given with this install.

You must have done your pickup in Stuttgart.

Wow that is extremely ghetto. on BMW's they use a foam 3M adhesive and tape it to the front bumper. Mine is still on the front almost 2 years later.

Wow. Wasn't aware of that. I can't imagine the "tape solution" shown in the pictures to be in accordance with German law (FZV, §10, 7) - front plate shall be inclined vertically opposite to driving direction up to 30 degrees. This looks far more than 30. If I were you I'd check and insist on law compliant installation.

By the way, welcome to Germany. We have a law for everything.

Leipzig has switched to a velcro-type tape behind the plate now. Looks a lot better. For the SUVs it is usually a zip tie solution in the grille area.
