Temporary EU license plates

Forgive me if this has been answered before but what happens to the temporary EU licenses plates after you turn your car back in at the end of ED?

You can take one with you and usually get the second one back during redelivery.

Both plates were given to me after I dropped off the car in Zuffenhausen

I forgot to take them off. Both plates remained on my car stateside when I took delivery here
