Is it normal to pay when the car reaches port?
Hello everyone,
My 992S has landed at port 12/7. Unfortunately due to EPA backlog, I can’t pickup my car from PEC-ATL until 1/20. My dealer emailed me yesterday saying he needs to start registration and take full payment now as the car is in the US. Only after this is complete will he authorize Porsche to release the car from port.
Is this normal practice? I was never told in advance to expect to pay in full as soon as the car lands. I assumed I’d pay 2-3 weeks before the 1/20 pickup date and complete paperwork.

I’ve taken delivery of three cars ordered and one delivered at the ATL-EC. I Paid when I picked up the car at the dealership or the weekend before leaving for Atlanta. Most recent experience of a friend two months ago was exactly the same as

Sounds to me like the dealer is trying to pad their 2020 sales numbers with PCNA.

Well check cleared and copy of paperwork received. I’m a first time buyer so I didn’t have many options. I have the vin and title paperwork, plates should be coming shortly so I’ll take them to Atlanta with me. Dealer has been great so far. With my future purchases I’ll definitely push harder to pay closer to pickup.

Not normal. I have a TTS Cab sitting in Houston port since thanksgiving but Pec LA is booked out until February 13. My dealer said I pay for the car prior to pickup.

Car is paid for in full and I have the title, and now insured (apparently so that they could register the car and issue plates). Good to know for the future. Looking forward to picking it up in a few weeks.

If you want the delivery at an experience center it seems fair for rhe dealer to get paid once the car is sent to the Experience center even though they can’t schedule your pickup sometimes for weeks. My dealer told me that the LA experience center only delivers two to four cars a day so it can delay your access to the car for a long time.
Just to get a $700 lunch seems kind of sill. You can on Thursday drive your new car on the same track for $350 by the way and lunch there won’t cost you hundreds of dollars.
