ED extended stay
I have the opportunity to visit Europe for a few weeks/ months starting in September.
Does anyone know how long I can keep the car there following a ED before shipping it back to the US? Can it be extended providing I pay for the insurance?

Yes, up to 90 days as of March this year. It's not cheap though, 90 days is nearly 4,000 Euro.

Just make sure you confirm that (preferably in writing) that your insurance company will provide C&C in Europe. When I did ED a few years ago my provider would not cover anything outside the North America

I did three ED with Porsche, two in 2015 and one in 2019.
The two were 6 months and the last one was limited to 3 month.
All of them I accidentally put a wagonload of (track) miles on before bringing it back to Porsche for handeling and shipping to the FL dealer.
No one ever remarked on the extra miles.
The 6000km and 3 month limit is a Porsche invention, not a Government thing maybe, I suspect. BMW quit, Audi quit but Mercedes you can still to ED 6 months and up to 12 month it is said on the MB website.
If you buy a car in Germany it must get tax paid if driven more then 6000km before exporting.
Not sure if that applies to ED for sure as Porsche implies. Anyway, there is a risk but not really as nobody wants to see a US car end up in Germany with taxes paid..

I don't know you exact travel plans once you are here but Zizu, feel free to PM if you get to visit the areas of Spa or Nurbugrging.
If working schedule allows, i could show you around the places and if you are into this kind of thing i could also sort you out with track-time.
I know that a lot of people doing EDs like to combine it with visiting some of the major European tracks.
Hope to see you around!
Konstantinos.

Thanks guys for all the helpful advices!
Konstantinos, I’ll definitely PM you when I have my plan in place. I would love to visit the Spa/ Nurburgring area while I’m there.
I have family in Europe and would love to visit all the cool places while I’m there.
cheers!
