Proposed DC Metro Area "Meet and Drive" to Annapolis - Sun. 11/9
No one has taken the initiative for a "Meet and Drive" for the past couple months, so I thought I'd start the ball rolling, since my first one (wonderfully organized by John from DC was so much fun earlier this summer).
We could meet at the same location as last time: Starbucks in Rockville MD-at the corner of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Rd (in front of the Toys R' Us parking lot - kind of appropriate, since these are our "toys" for "grown-ups". From 10-10:45am or so, we could drink some coffee, talk about each other's cars, check out various mods and goodies we've added to them, then blast up Route 50 to Annapolis, Md. together in a miniature Porsche Parade.
There, we could first go to Cherner Classics Annapolis and check out their exciting cache of cars - we did this on the last meet and drive in their Potomac location and it was alot of fun lusting over the old 60's Camaros and GTO's with tires wider than our 911's by many inches. They have everything from the muscle cars from our high school days to newer Ferraris and Porsches.

Soon afterwards, those that care to could grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants by the water and drive back whenever the mood strikes ya.
Anyone in? The Redskins don't play that day, so that shouldn't be a concern. Hopefully, we'll have as glorious weather for this drive as the one John planned a few months ago in Potomac.

PS - It'll be a nice night 11/9/03 as well - it'll be a full moon with a Total Lunar Eclipse!

Are 993's only allowed? I can't make it, but my son wants to take his Guard's Red '87 924S. By Spring we hope to have the Carrera restored w/ Turbo Fender/Tail, New Guard's Red paint, new black interior, SSI's. Monty Dual in/out, and a Steve Wong Chip. When we are done, we'll come up.

Allowed? Why, I personally would welcome your son with open arms! A Porsche is a Porsche. They're all special from my perspective. On the last "Meet and Drive" we had a 996 show up and a gorgeous 911 3.2 Turbo- bodied convertible. The more diverse the crowd, the more interesting it all gets - in my book, at least. I'm sure most others will feel the same. So, any other takers, or did I pick a bad weekend?

Hi Steve
May come out for the coffee, the P-car'll be on the ship by then, I hope. Sorry I couldn't work on an October meet. We have been extremely busy since returning from Europe with the move coming up.

Thanks to everyone who responded so far! It'll be nice to put a face to the posts I've read hear on Rennlist. I love that crisp November air and I look forward to a highway ride (as opposed to all the boring city driving I regularly do) out to Annapolis. The speed limit is raised to 65mph on most parts of Route 50 so I guess 75mph is fair game. I can't afford a speeding ticket - so I try not to go 10mph over the limit whenever possible. Don't want to lose my driving privilege after getting the car of my dreams.

Great idea, Steve. BTW, I hope your trip to Europe went well. I'm jam-packed with stuff to do starting in the early afternoon of November 9, but I'm going to try to meet everyone at the morning gathering and then peel away after that. My wife really enjoyed the last meeting and is upset that she'll be traveling out of the country on business starting on the 8th.
It'll be good to see everyone and their cars!

Sounds good to me. One thing though....parking in Annapolis on a nice day can be a real b!tch. I usually go all the way to the Chart House, park there and make the long walk (right past Cherner's) back into the old town. If this turns into anything like our NoVA fun runs, 20+ P-cars looking for a parking spot can get interesting.

Good point on the parking, Rick. Your idea sounds perfect - to caravan to the Chart House, leave our P-cars there (but where specifically could we all park - is their lot open that day for us all to park at?) and then walk back to Cherner Classic Cars to check them out, & finally strolling over to a restaurant in the area by the water. Any ideas on which restaurant to try? Or perhaps we could just decide that day when we arrive... Nothing like a little spontaneity.
John H - glad to hear you will be able to make at least part of the day! Our trip to France was great by the way. Spotted tons of cool Porsches, and many, many Ferraris and other exotics in Monaco.
Pete in DC - hope to see you there too! I owe you a drink!!!
