South Florida: We need to do a "Beer Night"
-Until last December, I flew 747's for Kalitta Air, an airline owned by NHRA drag racer Connie Kalitta. The nice part about working for this place was that I could work around the world while living in Fort Lauderdale. They bought me tickets to where the plane was parked, usually New York, since we didn't fly out of south Florida.
Well, there is a HUGE and very fun group of 928 enthusiasts in southeastern lower Michigan/Detroit metro area, where Kalitta Air has its headquarters. Once a year I was required by the FAA to spend a week up there for recurrent training...an exercise in boredom of course, but probably a good idea in the end.
It was just a lucky chance, but every year that I went up there, I was able to attend one of the "Detroit Beer Nights" that the 928 folks up there instigated. Once per month, the local V8 crew got together at various restaurants around the city, showed off their cars, and hung out. Dinner was had, beer was consumed, everyone stayed sober. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it, the Michigan State Police being VERY nasty about DUI's.
Because of things going on in my life, I've had a VERY hard time attending the major 928 events, but I've attended several "Detroit Beer Nights" and these have always been the best times with my 928 that I've had. In 2003, I drove my 928 to Detroit and kept it there for a month [generating attention around the company; Connie himself allowed me to wash the car as much as I wanted in the company vehicle garage] during training, and the Detroit crew loved the fact that 12 928's were parked side by side...one of them with a Florida plate~
[I'm convinced that there is something in the water in Michigan that causes male children draw pistons and connecting rods when they are three years old. Can you tell yet that I was born and raised in Michigan?]
Anyway, we in south Florida need to adapt this technology. The most sincere form of flattery is plagiarism, and I propose some sort of Thursday night get together each month at a restaurant in south Florida. On the 928 board, each month someone from Michigan posts a meeting reminder. Fort Lauderdale? Miami? West Palm Beach? Maybe we can find one central place, or try a different county each month. What do you folks think?

Bru's room is good, too, but I don't remember if they have outdoor seating.
