Default NJ to Rennsport Dragon Rally (June)

A buddy (2011 Audi R8) and I just registered for the Rennsport Dragon Rally in June (June 10-12). We will be driving down (not trailering) on June 9. Anyone else registered from the NJ area?

Yes sir, it will be. I've heard good and bad but decided I'd rather have some guidance on my first trip down there. Any advice you can offer up?

NYC metro area here. This looks interesting apart from the 13 hour drive to get down there. What have you heard about the event?

On your drive back, go straight to the Pocono mountains for Parade week.

Kalahari is only 90 minutes from my house. I'll head home, clean the car up and if the weather cooperates, I'll hit Kalahari at some point. Thanks.

Basically, a guided tour of all the best roads in the Smokeys. Probably a bit a ****show with the number of cars, but I decided that the first trip I'll take the assistance in hitting these roads in the right direction, at the right time, and with a local leading. Looking forward to the social aspects, as well. It's about 10-11 hours for me. We are going to split the drive up into two days on the way home (Monday) as we may be a little fried from the weekend.

There are normally six run groups in June. Groups one and two are the white knuckle group. Groups 3-5 are what I drive in and are very spirited. I can not imagine driving that aggressive all day long in group one and two. Group six is basically a sight seeing group. You do not have to stay in the same run group for the weekend. Josh normally does not put new people in the first two groups.

Thank you, this makes perfect sense. And I signed up for the "middle group" and we can assess after the first day. Spirited is fun; white knuckle maybe not....

There is a list on the site that gives you ideas of what to bring with you on your trip.
most important is a Radio and Download offline maps on your phone because there is No signal in the mtns.
Whats good is that you have a leader and a sweeper so you don't get lost.. if you have car trouble or assistance you can hit someone up on the radio

Daniel is one of the RDR leaders and also a good friend. He can also answer any questions that you may have. We normally both go down early on Thursday and hangout at 129 Hub for lunch and then head on over to Fontana later in the afternoon.

Porsche noob here. Just finding the regional threads, doh. There are a LOT of fine roads between NY/NJ/PA and the Tail. I recommend looking into the Back of the Dragon, for starters. I came up from the Tail last year, did the Back on my way north, made it home for dinner (SE PA). I did leave early in the morning!

@wdb , yes, I have a few roads to hit on Monday IF we aren't totally burnt from the weekend. We are staying Monday night in Northern Virginia just to split up the trip on the way home. If you have some specific roads for us to hit, please post them up!
