Default Trying to locate my fathers 914

I have the VIN (4712913642) to my fathers 1971 Porsche 914. It was sold in Annandale NJ in the summer of 1995. A few years ago I started trying to track it down with the hopes of rebuying it. A dealer was able to run a title check and confirm the car was last registered in NJ in 2009 with 150K miles. I'm now reaching out to local owners and club members to see if anyone can help me make the last mile of this search.

Carfax doesn't go back far enough. The VIN isn't on 914 world. SCCA contact email addresses seem to be down. Porsche Club of America said they don't keep a VIN database. DMV won't release contact info as it's private. I'm really unsure of how to bridge the gap - but I'm certain somebody in NJ has a 914 that they bought sometime after the summer of 1995.

Additional info if it helps :: It was a four cylinder that was bored out to larger displacement. It had a european spec gauge cluster and aftermarket wheels. Webber carbs. It was red when sold in 1995 and was sold to a couple living in NJ. I do not have a photo and I cannot verify if the person who purchased in 95 was the person registering in 2009.

Any tips or suggestions are welcome! Thank you all so much!

I started down the same road at least you have the VIN. I was trying to chase down my grandfathers 964 C, called the dealership he traded it in but they were paper records back then and don't keep them this long. Best of luck.

Don't ever give up. After over a fifteen year search, I recently found my father's 1937 AC 16/80 that he purchased new and sold in 1948. I didn't know it, put he sold it to Frank Lloyd Wright who repainted it red. The car is now full restored and resides in great hands in Texas. I'm still searching for his 1934 V12 Packard Coupe Roadster.

It's a wild goose chase for sure. Have you considered hiring a PI ?? I've heard of people doing that but I'm afraid to even find out what it costs.

Life is strange. You get old, have a bunch of things you collected and they get sold at a yard sale. Or you sell something to upgrade and your kids decide they want it back. Then the process repeats only its your grandkids wanting your kid's stuff back.

I hope you find it.
