Great post!

I think for the accuracy of the cars and tracks that folks like the most, as well as their online racing series (especially private leagues), iRacing fills the bill. Just reupped for the sixteenth year, still a good deal.

The ability to host private one-on-one, lead-follows just to talk about tracks people want to learn or already know and want to learn better is terrific and a very nice way to work remotely.

For tracks, cars and series that aren't in iRacing, Assetto Corsa is pretty good, but for custom tracks and mods, rFactor and rFactor2 may be better, depending on the specific series and era of car mods.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is a GT3 centric sim. Good fun, but not as many mods as for Assetto Corsa.

Some of the old sims are still pretty good. GT Legends, rFactor and even GTR2. Lots of fun sliding around.

AC. And in the EU region there's a lot of leagues and competition. If I was back in the US, it'd prob be iracing due to their market dominance. ACC is a step backwards for FFB (imo) compared to AC1.

AC because I don't have the time for iRacing. In AC, I primarily run my local tracks just for some fun. I really should try to do more with it.

https://lowfuelmotorsport.com LFM is now doing races for AC. For those not aware, LFM is a multiplayer suite similar to iracing’s safety, driver ratings and matchmaking (splits).

Infact, AC after 10 years, is charting at an all time high because of this. https://steamcharts.com/app/244210

Iracing predominantly. I got into it because it’s VR-friendly and that’s the sim PCA league uses. The telemetry is also good, compared to something like ACC, which is critical when I am coaching. When I had time, I would also do a bit of AC, where I can build an exact replica of my IRL car to drive at one of the local tracks.

I wish iRacing had better graphics. Perhaps that will come…

Interesting observation. I find iRacing to be auto-scaling depending on the hardware capabilities. More powerful the card, display and the processor, the better image quality you get.

I think it's almost photorealistic.

Does anybody have Pikes Peak besides an old dirt rally game?

I believe you can get it on Assetto Corsa.

I mostly use iRacing.... unless I'm just in the mood to "screw around" in which case I'll use Assetto Corsa.

I have also used AC for cases where I wanted to see a track firsthand I'd never been to before that isn't in iRacing. Generally their accuracy is suspect (and the only times I have EVER gotten a "computer virus" is from downloaded add-ons to AC) but in some cases it's all I can do. (I've been asked to coach a group at some track in TN called "Polecat" - some small dump in the middle of nowhere. Only option is to find a crappy download on AC to see where it goes right/left.)

Polecat Training Center is a pretty cool little track. You'll like it, IRL. Ask for Keith Watts or Owen Trinkler to show you around.
