Tailight retainer clip / socket replacement
The problem came when putting the tail assemblies back in place.
There are 2 points of attachment, where the assembly is located to the body panels.
The first point is inside the rear hatch, under two flat covers, where 2 star head bolts slide through the body panel and into flat nuts attached to the tail light asembly. The second point is a round headed stud, behind the outboard side of the assembly, that slides into a nylon socket that fits into an approximately 1/2" hole in a body bracket, located behind the outboard side of the assembly.
When I finished the bulb replacement, I found that the nylon socket on the passenger side was completely disintegrated, and the socket on the driver side, was cracked, but still intact. I put both assemblies back, and found that on the passenger side, where the nylon piece was disintegrated, the assembly moved noticably and would probably make a noise when the vehicle was driven.
So I looked to find what seemed a simple piece: a small nylon, rubber or plastic insert to receive and keep the stud from moving inside the body bracket.
Apparently it's not a standard part.
I finally found it at FCP Euro. It is Porsche part# 95563147102. Here is a link: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...he-95563147102
It looks different from the original, as the original piece was white and only about 1/2" deep. The new piece is black and a little deeper.
Also, note that FCP calls it a tail light retaining clip, but it is really more of a socket than a clip.
As of this date, the part is $2.69, plus shipping. You'll need one for each side.
They fit perfectly into the body bracket, and the tail light stud slides firmly into the socket,. The assemblies are now tight and rattle free, like new.
I'm the original owner of this 2006 Cayenne, so I know they were never replaced before. Being exposed to the weather and temperature changes, I guess 18 years is a pretty good run.
