Default Timing Chain Replacement/ 2006 4.5 Cayenne S

Well, it's confirmed, my 06' needs a Timing Chain replacement (after a basic and full diagnostic tests). I have a different mechanic that will install the timing kit for $1500 labor (which is about half normal labor charges). The problem is... There is no Timing Chain set or kit for these Cayennes! I searched this planet, and all parts must be purchased individually. OEM parts for the Timing Chain parts and components comes to around $4000-$5000.

Can anyone shed any light on this?... is this typical of Cayennes V8 It has 130K.

How long do you plan to keep the vehicle? You could have the cam timing reset without replacing anything but a handful of gaskets.

Thank you... It's got around 130k. I plan on keeping until it's done. Yea another member mentioned just loosening the timing gear and reset the timing, then tighten the gear.

I would hope that this is the case. The issue is that... I have not the time, tools or skill to do this. If I ask my mechanic to do this (basically the just labor of the loosening pulleys, accessories and the cover to get in there), he puts it back together and it doesn't work (chain too far stretched, or whatever), I'm out of those labor costs, and will he'll have to go in again and replace the parts after all. I'm a little concerned it this...

If it's in good shape and you are planning another 80-100k then replacing the timing chain is probably the way to go.
I would expect any shop will mark up the parts price by at least 50%.
There are not even any aftermarket parts for these that I could find. Everything needs to come from Porsche. That means you will want to have all the parts on hand before starting the work, as some parts might need to come from Germany or might even be unavailable.
You might talk to your shop about that, and tell them that since the parts are hard to get you will supply them with OEM Porsche parts on your dime.
