Default Temperature sensors

Temp sensors vs thermocouples. I'm using Aim temp sensors for water and oil - they work great. However, thermocouples also measure temperature and I was wondering in what circumstances might a club racer use a thermocouple. Anyone?

Thermocouples are more when you add in the amp. The thermocouples also have a much higher temp range than the sensors you have. Thermocouples also have different configurations like probes, stick on, wire grids, etc.

Thermocouples are often used for exhaust gas temperature sensors.

There are basically 3 ways to measure temp, RTD, Thermistor, and thermocouple. The AiM PT-1000 sensor you have is a RTD. Thermistors are more delicate, but that is what a lot of air temp sensors are like the ones MoTeC uses (GM style). Those both have more limited sensing ranges and are more delicate. These are usually good to around 250F.

K type thermocouples are usually good to around 1,200F. Then add in the range of proves, washers, stick on, air temp, and more make them extremely versatile.
