Which version of the Smarty Cam would best work with my MXL Pista?

Any version. I imagine an all-in-one plastic bodied original standard definition would be the least expensive. $250-$400, depending on the release version.

The original or SCHD, in either all in one or GP versions would work.
Do you already have a GPS05 or GPS08? If so, then make sure you have a data hub so you can plug everything in. If not, then I would recommend adding a GPS and data hub along with the camera.

I'll have a used HD all in one or two shortly.
If you need to add GPS to an MXL Pista (not too many still do), you can save yourself $160 if you add a GPS 08 B for the camera and run it that way.
Have plenty in stock.
