Default Adding external mic to 1st gen smartycamHD?

My wife's got a 1st gen SCHD and i've got a 2nd gen SCHD.

The audio quality seems quite a bit worse on her camera. Can we add an external mic to it?

Thanks!

No. You need a seven pin EXT jack into the camera, not a five pin.

The first gen SCHD only had a 5 pin plug, so it doesn't have the hardware to accept an external mic. This was changed with the 2nd Gen when the camera went back to a 7 pin plug. With the second gen, you can add the external mic.

The sound quality is a result of the entire camera being IP67 waterproof. They had to manage the mic opening, waterproofing, and size, all while still getting the sound through.
