Smartycam HD Not Recognized
#16
Oh, so you already know that SC HD works on a powered USB 3.0 external hub with a nice fat power supply driving the hub for the Surface Pro 3??
If that's the case then an external HUB of any 2.0+ flavor would fix the problem potentially but one would have to be sure that the hub's ports are delivering power to spec -- that's mostly down to the wall-wart PSU that comes with the hub.

An update to my original posting is "no joy." My computer running Windows 10 recognizes the Aim Network Adapter but RS3 doesn't see the device. It works fine with my Windows 8 laptop. I've spent a lot of time with Aim support having remote access with my computer and they can't figure out the problem. I don't think it's a USB 3 problem because my computer is several years old and as far as I know is USB 2. I've tried different wires as well as different USB ports on my computer. We tried reinstalling RS3 several times as well as verifying drivers. I'm sitting here scratching my head!

I want you to try another cable, please.

But the SoloDL connected to the same setup just fine...
So it seems my SmartyCam USB port failed after minimal use. That and the poor video quality and 1990's era RS3 user interface has me returning this thing really quick. I'd rather just use RaceRender + GoPro footage at this point than deal with any more AiM software.

I purchased a new SmartyCam HD v2.1 and had horrible trouble with intermittent connections to RS3. During my 1st track day with it, it stopped showing up completely and Windows gave me hardware error messages whenever I'd plug in the camera.

Racerender is a great, cheap tool! Good luck.

I know this is an old thread. But I just encountered similar issues with a SmartyCam bought recently. I’m running the latest SmartyCam firmware and latest version of RS3 (not beta). The camera won’t connect on my 2022 model laptop or 2021 model gaming computer, both of which running the latest version of windows. However, I was able to get it to work on a crappy low HP and tiny screen 2021 model HP laptop also running a recent version of windows. No idea what explains the differences except possibly an older processor? I’m no computer expert. So it’s just a guess. Just glad I can communicate to the camera on at least one machine.
Any way, I’m posting this in case others face similar issues. My take: Try to find a slow and possibly dated machine and see if that works. Or just try multiple machines. It’s a pita but better than having to return the camera that otherwise works well enough.
PS I did email customer service before trying multiple machines. But I didn’t want to wait until Monday for a response. Needed a faster solution since I can only prepare for track days the weekend before an event.

You can also try a regular multi-port USB hub. If that doesn't work, you can try a powered hub. How new of a computer you use makes no difference.

You can also transfer configs, tracks, details via an SD card using a reader plugged into any computer after it has been in a SmartyCam and initialized.

I tried an adapter (usb to usb 3) and a hub that also converts several different connections (usb, hdmi and maybe usb 2?) and those didn’t work. I didn’t think to try a multi usb hub and didn’t realize there was such a thing as a powered hub. I’ll try those too. Thank you!

When you install any SD card into the powered up SmartyCam, it's initialized and a file structure is built with folders and log files.
AFTER this, you insert the SD card into the laptop or a reader and the serial number of the camera will appear as a connected device. You can then Transmit Track files, Config files and change the name of the camera using RS3 and send them to the card.
Then, insert the card and using the buttons on the camera, select Menu>Settings>Conf Load>Load All and you're done.
