Catch up AIM?
For everything except video I believe they are way ahead. The longer they wait the others move forward.

Depends on your needs.
For many, the combination of the data written real-time onto the video is more valuable than squiggly lines...
For many, the configuration hurdles to set up the hardware to get what they need, is really tough, especially on open-source, such as RCP, or very powerful hardware, such as Pi Cosworth or MoTeC.
For many, the lack of electromechanical accelerometers and sole use of GPS derived lat and long g forces in the VVBOX does NOT yield braking data with the resolution and response time required for top-level pro driver analysis. The GPS derived and calculated g-forces are generally only good for comparative analysis with other VVBOX files, not absolute values.
To slam AiM for the current inability to open a synced video window within the data analysis window is really small potatoes, one easily surmountable by first reviewing the video fast lap, then opening the data file, which by default opens to the fast lap.
It is why I stock and sell a variety of systems (including the Video VBOX Circuit Tools, your screenshot) that do do that (provide a synced video window within analysis), however there are many reasons buy particular systems besides that feature...

I understand, but it's not possible to get a number of other very valuable measures you wish to see, plus any sort of flexibility on how to display it, when you JUST consider the two systems capable of comparing video laps side by side. Those systems are really only capable of that one "killer app," where as the SDL/SCHD is capable of so much more.
I would be glad to sell you a used, demo VVB Lite 2-camera so you can see how you like it at great savings...

It will be more accurate in general, but specifically in corners (as told by the owner of AiM). It will also get GPS lock quicker and not have the weird once a month (quarter, year, whatever) 15 minute vlackout that all other systems have when the satellites disapeer. I have not seen data from the GPS08, but it should be pretty cool.
Now, the GPS05 is still a great unit and fulfills the needs of almost everyone.

"I'm definitely frustrated by the inability of AiM to compared video of two laps side-by-side. I'd get an AiM Solo DL / Smartycam combo in a heartbeat if that feature was available."
Have you used the RS 3 video viewing. I think it is exacly what you are asking for.
