Default AIM Solo Understeer/Oversteer

My limited understanding is that this can be analyzed in Race Studio by calculating something called KUS. Input parameters are speed, lateral acceleration and steering angle which are channels I receive. Also needed is wheelbase which I can obtain and threshold value for lateral acceleration. I'm not certain what is meant by threshold value or how to obtain it. I also don't know what the formula is for this calculation.

Can anyone help with this analysis?

Thanks!

Here is a technical paper by AiM with more background and examples.

I have not used AiM's math succesfully. I have used John Block's math with some success, but have a methodology and workflow that is not dependent on determining Kus to put a number on os/us. Part of that methodology is video review, which was not available when this technical paper was written in 2007.

I don't use the AiM math. John's is good as are a few others. Quantifying the understeer can be helpful when trying to make setup changes and evaluating drivers preferences.

For quick and dirty analysis, a simple X-Y Plot with lateral G and steering angle can give you a great simple visual analysis.

I don't have the book with me, but does Bob Knox's book have this in it? I thought it did.

Yes, you're right. Bob's is good.

Everyone should have Bob's book, if you're headed in this direction.

I agree. The math channels he provides are worth the price of the book by themselves.
