AIM MXL2 shift light setup
I'm looking for suggestions on how best to setup the shift lights. I currently have it evenly spaced every 200 rpms to redline (6600 on a Spec Boxster) with the first 3 green (starting at 4800), middle 4 yellow and final 3 red.
When I look at the shift lights on an F1 wheel, it looks like they creep up evenly and suddenly get a burst of blue (maybe 5 lights) when its time to shift. Is that the best way to set it up?
If so, would I have the burst (say the final 5 lights) set to something like 6500? Then maybe the first 5 evenly spaced at 200 RPMs each leading up to that?
Thanks in advance.

There is no "right" way to set shift lights. It's whatever works for you and that you like. I personally like gear dependent shift lights. Larger spaces on lower gears and smaller on higher gears. Then, larger in the lower RPM range and a little tighter at the top.
Also, you can do them outside in (doesn't have to be across left to right).

I did mine with roughly the same intervals across the rev range, and used colors to indicate when I should be down a gear (or more, but that's usually really obvious I just like the bling). I also set up the right three alarm lights to light up with the redline LED.
I found the red LED's hard to see in bright daylight so I'm trying other colors.

It's been my experience that there are more optimal ways to set shift light intervals than even across the board. Engine revs rise more quickly lower in the range, especially in top gear. Depending on the car, I will start with 400, then progress to 300 then finish with 200 between the top two lights. All should be lit at max working revs. I also arrange from outside in to center for some installations that visibility is better in the center of the arc than at the right end. It's a very configurable setup. Good luck!
