gear calc

Last time I checked, I think the gear calc can now be run by the menu buttons on the dash....at least I think that is what I recall...on my MXG. I'd start there. I have the ratios programmed in but haven't gotten it on track yet to test it out.

Yes, with the latest firmware, you can access redoing the gear calc using the Menu and Select buttons on all dashes.

Cayman Gear
Rick
For the time being, you can create a math channel and calculate the gear (approximate). I had some other Cayman data and I compared the speed per rpm with that cr's calculated gear and came up with the formuls below, assuming his tire is the same diameter as yours. Give it a tru. When you get your car back we'll set up Calculated gear.

gear calc
Hi Jerry
Thanks for the math channel. If the ECU derived gear selection still fails after the car is at Spencer's (he's taking a look at the ECU feed) I may give math a try.
Thanks for the offer to help with the calibration method. I used that for years with the 993 and am familiar with it so I won't need help on that part. But thanks.

I looked at a bunch of Cayman/Seimens 3.1 data and none show the SM_Gear working so I think you'll need to do the calculated gear setup.
Peter
I had not used AIM_Gear before. I tried it and it calculates one gear higher than the "Calculated gear" generated by the dash. Hope you are enjoying Maine, I'm in Maine too for 3 months.
Matt
You math will show a gear change but not the gear number.

gear calc
Hi Jerry
Thanks for checking the several examples of the Cayman ECU. That confirms my suspicion that it's the signal that is absent.
Odd though that the same car/same logger picked up and displayed the gear selection fine last year. Then this spring - gone.
I assume a firmware update over the winter is the culprit.
I like and admire AiM but if this is the reason and they haven't detected and corrected, that is disappointing.
Maybe Roger can check further. I'll email the AiM tech guys in Roanoke and let them know it's not unique to my car.
Thanks as always for your support (and Pete and Matt as well).

I actually looked at the Cayman data on the car we ran in Grand Am in 2011 and it didn't have SM_Gear. After taking a closer look at your May and October data files, you never had SM_Gear. In May you had "Calculated Gear" and in October you did not. So, the answer is that you need to run gear calculation again. I do not think this is not a firmware issue.
