Data Acquisition for Autocross

Data Acquisition for Autocross
I've been told AIM can be used to set a "start" and a "stop" for point to point racing.
Does anyone have any actual experiencing using a data system in autocross?
Part of my agreement with my (paying) co-Driver this season was to provide a data system so we could overlay and compare each other's runs.

Pretty sure that IS possible. What kind of car are you all running?

This is not AiM's strong point.....yet. The Solo and Solo DL will do this, but the integration and end info is not the best (I'm sad to answer!). This is going to change, but that is still a ways out.
From what I've seen, Race Keeper works the best for this as you can define the start and finish lines after the data is collected. Also, Steve Hoelscher, their main sales guy, is an SCCA Autocross Champion and can show how he uses RK for data.

I have no interest in video - our only goal is to be able to overlay each other's runs between sessions and find out who's faster where, and why - and then apply what we've learned to our driving immediately.
Does RaceKeeper have a "budget" option like that?
We've tried the phone/tablet apps - they're really cumbersome to work with. We want to be able to load the data onto a laptop for immediate analysis.
This will be in an A-Street 996.

I would think video would be very helpful in autox so you could see the difference in the cars attitude at certain points on the course?
Have you looked at Solo Storm? http://www.petreldata.com/ It is the only system I know of that is focused on autocross. It's phone based, but purpose built.
Here is a pretty comprehensive list of all the data systems I know http://www.trailbrake.net/resources#dataloggers

Mychron systems are the same as an MXL/EVO 4 in that they start recording at with >500 rpm right? So you'll get data, but how do you set start/finish? Wheel speed could give you start position, but not finish.
Peter, how would you set it up?

Seriously, there are Stop Boxes at the end of most autocrosses, so it's easy to compare two runs.
Here is a screenshot of an autocross run comparison across three drivers using a GPS enabled MyChron4. $399 plus $59 for the two-port with power feed CAN Hub and $299 for the antenna. There are less expensive options...

Stop boxes are a region of the country thing. We almost never have them in the Northeast. I don't think I've ever seen one at a PCA Parade autocross either.
I guess it depends on what someone wants out of the data. There is no easy way to get the starting point or the end point unless there are no flying starts and stop boxes. Then, you don't have a good way to add segments or get timing.
I would still say if you want good data, the RK systems is the way to go. I've gone through a bunch of it with Steve and it works very well for that analysis. It pains me to say that as I work myself out of a potential sale, but AiM products are not the best solution.......yet.
