VBOX setup issues
I recently purchased a 997.2 Cup from New Zealand that has a VBOX Lite system already installed.
As it came, the system worked to a point. All 4 lights on the VBOX unit came on when the unit was powered up but the OLED display would display >50km from start line. I was able to retrieve video images saved to the onboard SD card of my runs at tracks in California, however, the SCN (scene) file was set up for a track in New Zealand and I wished to update the scene for the tracks I run in California. I had hoped that this would rectify the issue with not recognizing the start line.
I downloaded and installed the VBOX set up software onto a laptop, and used a mini USB cable to interact and pull the installed scene from the VBOX lite unit. This scene was edited for Laguna Seca, and the units changed from KPH to MPH. I then attempted to upload the new scene into VBOX lite using the same mini USB cable but encountered an error message "Racelogic.Comms.ModuleLowLevel.GetFirmwareVersion(): No response from unit". I also attempted to upload the original unedited scene back to the unit but receive the same error.
Now when I run the car the VBOX lite unit constantly beeps and only 2 of the 4 lights come on. I've also attempted to update the scene using the SD card instead of the USB and the same error message is put onto the SD card by the unit "tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
Failed to extract update bundle (2)
Update failed."
Appreciate any help to correct this issue and get the unit operational? Thanks

That's too bad, because you could have reset the start/finish line by using that feature under the OLED menu. The scene is corrupted now, it appears.
You will need to reload the firmware, first. If it won't take it, you'll need to use a "clearscene" instruction file available from Customer Support at the US headquarters in Novi, Michigan.

Then, load the latest track list update. It's usually included on the latest fw update, but I unzip it to the root of the card and do it anyway.

Make sure you use VBOX Setup (not the HD2 VBOX Video) software, use the Auto Track Map element (elements are animated icons on the background of the video), save the file, THEN send to the VBOX Lite.
I sold a couple hundred of these between 2010 and about 2016, they have been discontinued because you can't get camera CMOS sensors and other parts for them, but there are plenty in service.

@ProCoach thanks for the tips.
I had the car out at the weekend and the Vbox system is now working, auto trigger is functioning and recording track data. Only one issue remains that no CAN signals are being recorded and I dont know if its Vbox or car related. Currently I am trying to log throttle, engine speed and fuel pressure (no brake pressure option) but the bar plots in the scene are empty. Any there any troubleshooting guides on how to check CAN signals? I have to say I am surprised that brake pressure is not an option to be logged.
Thanks

The difficulty is that the signal sent from the car is rom the ECU. So generally only info from the engine management (throttle position, engine speed, intake air temp) are included. It's dating from the 996 Cup in the comms protocol used all the way through the end of the 997 Cup range.
I have a workaround to add brake pressure, and likely a fix for your missing CAN info, but please DM me with your email so we can continue the conversation and offer you a solution. It is there, but there is more to be done.
