Default AiM RS3 Updates - Time Compare on a map

AiM RS3 3.64.09 adds a few neat features! You can now show Time Compare on the track map, so instead of just seeing the squiggly lines, you can see the colors on the map! It's a really neat feature. They also added frequency analysis for all the people that want to dig really deep into their data!

Right click in the track map for the menu where you can select to color the map by time compare.

Track map colored by time compare along with the time distance plot and synched videos.

Frequency analysis is added to RS3 Analysis. This shows suspension frequencies, but you can use it on any measure!

That time compare as a color channel is a great tool.

Very cool Matt, thanks for sharing.

Your "Understeer" tab looks interesting.......

I guess I don't spend enough time looking at colored maps but for me usability would be enhanced if the map was white with colored sections where lap X was gaining time and different color where lap Y was gaining time. Especially if colored in sync with the time-distance trace, using intensity of the color for the amount of time being gained per unit distance.

Which I guess with the right colors assigned to the right laps you sort of get that.

It's a great concept. Is there any way to hide the reference lap on the map? It's solid green, and confuses the view unless at extreme zoom in.

Not right now. If you select the other lap as the reference, it will put that on top and draw over the reference lap.

Only if I'm consistent enough to drive the same line for 2 laps.

I mean, this is the GPS spread on back to back laps in the Summit Point Shenandoah karousel, pretty sure I was in the same place in that section of the track:

We had a meeting about this today and it sounds like there will be a couple of options on the reference lap. Most likely it will always be in the back and more transparent. This can help if you are comparing driven line, assuming your more consistent than freeride

This comment is a bit of a tangent, but I have the same issues. Looking at the "GPS PosAccuracy" channel in RS3 I have never recorded better than 3 feet of accuracy and the average is 4.3 feet. This is at Watkins Glen and Sebring with anywhere from 9 to 16 satellites. Solo2 DL v2 mounted on windshield.

For me, because of the GPS uncertainty and the "map alignment" challenge, using RS3 to show car location or compare location from lap to lap is something I just don't trust to determine a car widths difference
If I have to know, I go to video.

I also only have a GPS08. When's the "GPS10" being released?

(Sorry...updated to correct antennae names.)

Interesting....
Same track and turn as DTMiller above. I can guarantee you that I was never at the green or teal location. (GPS08 antennae location, on roof, center of car)
But GPS accuracy matters.
GPS accuracy for green and teal = ~2.4'
GPS accuracy for the others = ~1.3'

The "google" maps are a bit involved. The satellite photo is then stretched to match the sphere of Earth and multiple photos are aligned as best they can. This leaves some error and you can see the difference in the maps when you look at the different map programs. For real car position, I look at the video. This gives you the angle of the car along with the location on track. You could also probably dig into the lat/long data, but I've never done that myself.

These screen shots show how the underlying map can change appearance of where you drove. They are also good in showing that while the line difference on the map looks like a lot, the video shows it being very similar.

Image without notes.

See the relative difference in the cars position and the difference on the overlay.
