Default Motec C187 Install

Finally posting some pictures of the work on my C187 install with custom steering wheel. I’ve done all the work on this myself with the exception of cutting the carbon fiber plate.

this is my second Motec install, and there is a lot I’ve learned from the first one. First, it takes a lot of planning to do something this complex. Second, document everything...literally every pin in the harness, or you’ll regret it later. Third, it helps to have a little help from a real pro. Chris Brown did all the CAN templates and helped QA my pin out before I twisted a single wire. Last, do lots of research on how to build a really good harness; it takes a lot of customs tools, none of which are cheap.

In addition to the CAN data i’ll have 10 Hz GPS, Izzy 6 DOF IMU, oil cooler in temp, oil cooler out, 2 KA combo oil pressure/temp sensor (one on each head), shock pots, Izzy tire temp/pressures, plus a whole bunch of inputs/output for the various buttons on the steering wheel. I’ve built the wheel so I can eventually make it CAN only, but that’s a future upgrade; for now it uses all 22 pins in the Krontec disconnect.

Next up in the project is finishing off the center console, which I hope to finish over the holidays.

Impressive. I’ve done something similar with a c125. Im using the ecu master can switch in my steering wheel, which supports 8 buttons and 2 dials.

Question - how did you make the decals/labels ?

the carbon fiber plate is engraved, and then filled with white paint.

i’m working on Gen2 of this, which will transmit all the signal via CAN.

Nice work!

What CAN analyzer is that? I've been considering a new one, but not sure what I want. I've been doing a lot more CAN work.

thats actually a serial to USB adapter. My CAN pcb uses a serial connection for debugging.
