RS3 no wi-fi tab (windows XP)
hi, after updating RS3 to (v 3.24.02) the wi-fi tab is no longer visible, leaving me unable to connect my Mychron 5. The movie function is also not playing as it should.
If I download to an older version (3.11.03) the wi-fi tab is visible and the movie function works fine.
I can't seem to find any reason for this other than perhaps the newer versions of RS3 are no longer compatible with Windows XP?
Can anyone please confirm this? If this is the case, then i'll update the old laptop and operating system! Long overdue, I hear you say!
many thanks!

I don't think xp is supported, but I'm not positive. I remember their was a problem caused by XP and I think they stopped supporting it. I'll try and check later today.

XP no longer supported
I feel your pain. Really I do. Windows is not my default OS.
I used XP for my AIM software. Sure it was old and antique. But I ran it just for specific Windows apps - none of which needed Internet access.
For this purpose, XP was very stable. But incredibly old.
I secured XP in my VM by disabling all Internet access ( disabling the network interface)
Pretty much the only way to keep XP secure is to disable the network interface
But when RS3 wanted internet access for updates and more I had to bite the bullet and update to Win10.
Running XP with access to the internet enabled is more than ill advised. Its dangerous.
So in this case, AIM is doing you a favor.
And in fairness, we are talking about an OS that is 17 years old. Microsoft discontinued even critical security support for XP 4 years ago.
Its a bit much to ask developers to maintain support for a 17 year old operating system.
Change is hard and sometimes time consuming. Corporate America continued to run 9 year old Windows 7 as their desktop OS. But they all realize that the game is up and are updating to Windows10

Dan, you know, it's funny.
As a guy who has built gaming and simulation computers for two decades, each new OS came with it's own challenges.
First (for me) was Win95 (and O/S Warp), then Win98. Then, the short-lived Windows Millenium Edition, Win2000 (NT based), then XP, then the travesty that was Vista, then Win7, Win8, Win8.1 and Win10.
I was always hesitant to upgrade, mostly due to non-existent, late or lack of optimized GPU drivers. I hung on to Win98 and Win XP for more than a decade. Win7 was good for me, and can't convert my Fusion drive iMac (2013) to the latest OS Mojave because it nukes the Boot Camp partition.
As you say, this is really a blessing for the OP. Win10 is mature, works well and has the fewest BSOD of any previous WinDOZE OS. Thanks for the memories.

time to get a Surface Pro 6 or a Surface book and ship that XP machine to the museum:

Thanks for the advice guys.
I was running XP in an old Dell Inspiron 9400 , that was only ever used for karting! It's served us so well but it's had its day for sure! I reckon i've had it since early 2000!
Windows 10 & a new laptop it is! I have been looking at the XPS 15 but as yet, I'm undecided!
To be honest, I only use RS3 to upgrade the Mychron & any SmartyCam configurations etc. I usually just fire the SD card into the laptop and watch movies in VLC. That said, I do like the ability to play and sync video in RS3!
Thanks again guys and hi from a newbie to the site!

My old Inspiron is 17" (built like a brick) and I'm thinking dropping down to a 15" with the full size sd slot might suit best. I had considered the 13" but noticed it does not have a full size sd slot. Does not having the full size sd slot cause any problems Coach?

Oops, I have a 9360 (still in production) and it appears the 9370 has only a mSD slot.

Hmmm, that's why I got rid of my Surface Pro and got the XPS13. It DOES have a full-size SD card slot. Have to have that...

Thanks Coach, that's an option then, if I want to go for a 13"
Which spec did you go for and/or recommend?

This stuff is not super taxing, but 512GB storage is important. Most folks buy the Inspiron 5000 (?) 15”, but we’re high performance people, am I right?

Just an update guys! My eldest has given me an old 2012 MacBook Pro that I can use, until I make a final decision on which windows pc to purchase.
I decided to try & after a few attempts, managed to install windows 10 (home) on the Mac, using boot camp.
My next step, is to attempt to install RS3 & I would like to ask, what can I expect after installation? Are there any known problems running RS3 in boot camp or should I expect it to work just fine?
Can I update my Mychron 5, use for Smartycam, use the movie section to watch video etc?
I'm sure I read in the forum that it runs seemlessly but thought I'd ask?
