Solo DL vs Solo 2 DL - real world impressions
Now that the 2DL has been out for a bit and a ton of you upgraded, what are your thoughts?

OOps, I meant that as a question, not the headline for a review, sorry about that.

Jury is out right now. While I think the potential is huge, I think it will take time to realize the full benefits of the new system and hardware. Big issues now are battery life when used standalone, incomplete and not yet ported protocols, etc. But these can all be fixed...
The real-time driver feedback via LEDs is invaluable. The ability to write your own protocols and the more powerful processor are all good things. The dual GPs is worthwhile, too.

So far my experience has been mixed. I like the onscreen data recall where you can see your speed through various parts of the track but have not been happy with the predictive lap data.
Last weekend at Watkins Glen I was getting some strange data while driving. For example I would be running steady 2:06 pace and get wildly different predictive lap times at different points on the track. I would come across the line and then get accurate data coming up through turn 1,2 and the Esses. By the time I cleared the bus stop I would get predictive lap times that were way off my pace (like 2:20 when I was still running a 2:06 or 2:07 by the time I got to the start finish.
i confirmed I had the track setup as Watkins Full and not NASCAR so I am not sure what is going on. I also had similar problems at my home course of Putnam Park where it was only accurate through the first 2-3 turns.

I think the S2DL is a nice upgrade. Being able to use the lights as a predictive with the ability to set the increments is really nice. The improved track management, WiFi, user definable CAN, and better GPS make it a nice upgrade. Not critical for most people, but certainly better than the original.

Looks like a change in battery life management with the release of .87 firmware for the Solo 2/Solo 2 DL today!
