Default Wheel cleaning help

Decided to clean the inside of my wheels that I have been delaying for quite some time.

Using Sonax wheel cleaner, adhesive remover and 45 minutes of elbow grease, I was able to bring this wheel back to say 75% to my liking but it still has some brake dust on it.

Is it possible to clean it further, I know the picts are not of great quality but good enough to get the idea?

Thanks

To make those right they need to be sanded down to bare metal and then painted.

Front wheel with years of baked brake dust

3rd picture is after the first round of slight scrubbing and the last one is after the final round.

Very impressed with Sonax and can only imagine how the new Sonax Plus would be.

Tip, if you want to get tar and similar stuff off, WD 40 works extremely well and costs a lot less than specialty products.

As for aluminum, if it wasn't painted, clear coated or clear anodized, it will corrode. If you are going to use any aluminum polishing compound, then it will have to be on bare aluminum.

I used spray brake cleaner. And the brake cleaner with a light abrasive pad on the worst spots. It evaporates quickly. But, it removed every bit of crud.

Naval jelly would work, just be careful with it. It's nasty stuff
